Bay Pines Veterans Service Center volunteers help build two Habitat Pinellas homes in St. Pete!

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Volunteers from Bay Pines Veteran Services Help Habitat PinellasIt was a typical steamy, hot day. The surrounding neighborhoods were relatively quiet, but on 28th Avenue North in St. Petersburg there was a flurry of activity as volunteers from the Veterans Service Center at Bay Pines worked with Habitat Pinellas site supervisors David Fornek and Ron Johnson on not one, but two adjacent affordable houses being constructed. Within the next several months, these houses will be completed along with three more “neighboring” houses. Once again Habitat Pinellas has the opportunity to enhance an existing neighborhood by constructing multiple Habitat houses in a single block.

Sandy Smith, Veterans Service Center Manager, was the group lead and indicated that they were having a great time and learning a lot. Sandy even coerced her daughter to volunteer! Talk about commitment!

This is the first volunteer outing for the Veterans Service Center group, but it won’t be their last. In fact, they have already scheduled a repeat performance! Thank you for your support! We have already discussed the possibility of presenting to this group and will finalize plans in the next couple of weeks.
